BRUNSWICK, ME – In an interview this morning with CNN New Day, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) called for an end to the political blame-game and finger pointing surrounding the humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Mexican border and called on Congress to engage in a substantive, thoughtful debate on the issue.

“There’s too much shouting, too much finger pointing, too much squabbling….People need to take a deep breath, sit down, and look at the facts,” Senator King said. “The first fact is this crisis was generated by a law passed in 2008…and it treats immigrants from non-contiguous countries – children – differently from those from Canada or Mexico and that’s really part of the origin of this….It’s a humanitarian crisis and we’ve got…to help those countries like Honduras with the highest murder rate in the world so that these kids don’t feel like they have to escape and go through the horrible process of trying to get to our country.”
