This Week In Washington: Terrorism Risk Insurance, Bay Nomination, Encouraging Family-Friendly Work Places, Recognizing America’s Lighthouses

BRUNSWICK, ME – As part of his ongoing effort to keep the people of Maine informed of his work in Washington, U.S. Senator Angus King recapped this week’s events in the nation’s capital.

  • The Senate’s passage of a bill that would reauthorize of the Terrorism Risk Insurance program, which provides a federal “backstop” to private U.S. insurers in the event of a certified terrorist attack. The Senate bill would reauthorize the program for seven years.
  • The Veterinary Medicine Mobility Act, a bill he authored with Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas. Both the House and Senate have now passed the bill, which will go to the President’s desk for signature.
  • The nomination of Norman Bay to lead the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC. Senator King voted against Mr. Bay’s nomination, but has pledged to work with Mr. Bay now that he has been confirmed.
  • The legislation he introduced with Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska to provide more flexibility to working families. The Strong Families Act would encourage employers to offer paid family leave.
