This Week in Washington: Situations in Ukraine and Gaza, DISCLOSE Act Hearing, Gifford’s Ice Cream on Capitol Hill

PORTLAND, ME – As part of his ongoing effort to keep the people of Maine informed of his work in Washington, U.S. Senator Angus King recapped this week’s events in the nation’s capital.

In his weekly address, Senator King discussed:

  • The tragic downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 in Ukraine.
  • The challenging international situation unfolding in Gaza. Senator King was in the Middle East this past winter meeting with the Israeli Government and Palestinian Authority, and he is hopeful that Secretary Kerry can help facilitate an end to the present conflict.
  • The Rules Committee hearing he chaired on the DISCLOSE Act, which would help shine light on the dark money that is consuming politics today. This is the second campaign finance hearing that Senator King has chaired as a member of the committee.
  • The ice cream social that he and Senator Collins co-hosted with representatives from Gifford’s Ice Cream of Skowhegan. The event was in celebration of the Maine company’s expansion to the Washington area.
