This Week in Washington: EPA Carbon Rules, FCC Commissioner, Bergdahl Release

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – As part of his ongoing effort to keep the people of Maine informed of his work in Washington, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) sat down to discuss this week’s events in the nation’s capital.

In his weekly address Senator King discussed:

  • The proposed rules from the Environmental Protection Agency to limit carbon emissions from existing power plants. The EPA rules, which were announced on Monday, would lower emissions from power plants 30 percent by 2030.
  • His meeting with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler to discuss several important issues, including the future of the E-Rate program. 
  • The release of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for the conditional release of five Taliban prisoners.
