WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King announced today three grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans affairs, totaling more than $4.7 million, which were awarded to three non-profit organizations that assist homeless and at-risk Veterans in Maine.   These funds will have a direct impact on Veterans in the state through the work of organizations including the Community Action Partnership, Veterans Inc., and Preble Street. The grants are provided by the Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) program, which works in collaboration with the VA to promote housing stability by providing services such as mental health care and temporary financial assistance.

“Maine is home to one of the highest percentage of Veterans per capita, and we have an obligation to provide these courageous men and women, who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms, with the most comprehensive and accessible assistance programs available,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “The SSVF grants announced today will make a significant contribution to that effort and undoubtedly help hundreds of at-risk and low-income Veterans in Maine improve the stability of their living situation.”
