WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, and Angus King announced today that the United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has awarded $835,037 to the Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging at Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor. The funding will be used for the continuation of research on the aging process.
 
“The work done by Jackson Laboratory has significantly expanded our knowledge of human genetics,” said Senators Collins and King. “As the baby boomer generation enters retirement, it is vital that we continue to expand our knowledge of the aging process.”
 
The Nathan Shock Center of Excellence at Jackson Laboratory focuses researchers’ diverse expertise in biology and genomics on developing a better understanding of the natural processes at work during our lifespan.
