Senators Collins, King Announce More Than $4 Million in Grant Funding for Maine Airports

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, and U.S. Senator Angus King today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the City of Portland $2,532,600 for improvements at the Portland International Jetport, $1,250,000 to the City of Bangor for improvements at the Bangor International Airport, and $350,000 to the City of Presque Isle, for improvements at the Northern Maine Regional Airport at Presque Isle.

“Maine’s airports serve as critical links between our communities and help to propel economic development throughout our state. This crucial funding will provide Portland, Bangor, and Presque Isle with the support they need to continue to operate their airports as efficiently, effectively, and safely as possible,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement.

Specifically, the DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration says this entitlement funding will be used to rehabilitate the runway pavement at the Bangor International Airport and at the Portland International Jetport, and to procure new snow removal equipment at the Northern Maine Regional Airport.
