WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $1,100,000 in grant funding to the Brunswick Executive Airport (BXM) to rehabilitate a building formerly part of the Brunswick Naval Air Station.
"Maine’s airports serve as critical links between our communities and help to propel economic development throughout our state," said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. "This funding will help Brunswick Executive Airport make necessary improvements and ensures that the airport has the facilities needed to support the region."
The funding is awarded as part of the DOT’s Military Airport Program, which is administered by the Federal Aviation Administration. The Military Airport Program provides financial assistance to civilian sponsors who are converting airfields from military to civilian use.
