Senators Collins, King Announce Grants for Denmark, Sullivan Fire Department

Funding will help departments purchase truck and equipment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Demark Volunteer Fire Department will receive a federal grant in the amount of $157,510 and the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Association will receive a federal grant in the amount of $61,560 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Specifically, the funding for Denmark will come through the AFG’s Vehicle Acquisition program and will help the department purchase a mini pumper fire truck. Funding for Sullivan will come through the AFG’s Operation and Safety program and will help the department purchase 12 firefighter breathing apparatus.

“These grants are a critical resource for so many Maine fire departments, including those in Denmark and Sullivan, and the dedicated fire and rescue personnel who serve our communities,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “In order for our first responders to perform their duties, it’s essential that they have access to the resources they need, such as vehicles, equipment, and proper training.”
