WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the Hampden Fire Department, Holden Fire and Rescue, and Presque Isle Fire and Rescue will receive a total of $93,331 in grant funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.  The Hampden Fire Department will receive for $16,378 for a turnout gear washer and dryer, Holden Fire and Rescue will receive $52,381 for an air refill system and compressor, and Presque Isle Fire and Rescue will receive $24,572 for firefighter turnout gear.

“The brave men and women from fire departments across Maine work hard every day to protect and safeguard their communities, and it’s important that they have the tools and resources necessary to support them in that work,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This grant is an investment in the safety of Maine communities through the AFG program, which continues to provide critical support to fire and rescue efforts in our state.” 

The AFG program is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is an agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The program was created to help assist fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations with purchasing equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to better protect the public and emergency personnel.
