WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’s Office of Community Services’ Community Economic Development Project Program will award $600,000 to Coastal Enterprises, Inc., (CEI), a non-profit based in Brunswick that helps to grow economic development in Maine. The funding will support a partnership between CEI and Junora LTD, a start-up manufacturing company based in Biddeford, to provide job training and support for low-income individuals in the region.

 

“For over 40 years, CEI has been a national leader in rural economic development and financing environmentally sustainable business practices,” said Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “Maine needs qualified workers, and these funds will help Maine people acquire the skills they need to succeed in the 21^st century economy. We are proud to support this partnership between CEI and Biddeford-based Junora to bolster our state’s economy, develop our workforce and create promising job opportunities for Maine people.”

 

Last spring, Senators Collins and King sent a letter to the HHS in support of CEI’s grant application.

 

Coastal  Enterprises, Inc. is a non-profit in Brunswick with a joint focus on economic growth and environmental health. Established 40 years ago, CEI works with Maine start-ups and entrepreneurs to provide support and create jobs for Maine people. Junora LTD is a start-up manufacturing company that provides advanced metallurgical products to produce products such solar panels and lithium batteries.
