Senators Collins, King Announce $11,392,918 Contract Modification for Bath Iron Works

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the U.S. Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works a $11,392,918 contract modification. The funding will be used to exercise options for Arleigh Burke-class destroyers lead yard services.

“The announcement is welcome news for the highly skilled men and women at Bath Iron Works,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This funding allows BIW to continue to provide its engineering and technical expertise to the Navy for the DDG-51-class of destroyers. We applaud the Navy for this contract modification that supports the hardworking engineers, designers, and planners at BIW; strengthens Maine’s economy; and bolsters our national security.”

Since 1987, Bath Iron Works has provided design and technical assistances services for the DDG-51-class destroyers.  This funding is a cost-plus-award-fee modification to a previously awarded contract for the continuation of lead yard services. The modification provides additional liaison and technical support; engineering, design, and configuration management; a systems engineering team; and turnkey and crew indoctrination and orientation. Funding was allocated through the Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command.

Senator Collins is a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and Senator King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
