BRUNSWICK, ME – Next Monday, September 28, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) will deliver remarks at Digital New England, a regional broadband summit in Portland hosted by Next Century Cities and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Senator King will participate in a keynote conversation with Susan Crawford, President Obama’s former Special Assistant for Science, Technology, and Innovation, and David Edelman, the President’s Special Assistant for Economic and Technology Policy, to discuss the important role broadband plays in driving economic growth and prosperity across Maine and New England.

Monday’s day-long summit will include hundreds of participants who will share real-world broadband success stories and lessons learned from across the Northeast, as well as strategize on how to close remaining gaps to next-generation Internet access. Attendees will also learn about the findings of the Broadband Opportunity Council, convened by the White House to examine how federal policy can better support community broadband. Next Century Cities is a bipartisan, city-to-city initiative of over 100 communities dedicated to ensuring the availability of next-generation broadband Internet for all Americans. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is the executive branch agency principally responsible for advising the President on telecommunications and information policy issues.
