National Retail Federation Names King “Hero of Main Street”

Owner of Haven’s Candies in Westbrook Presents King with Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Andy Charles, the owner of Haven’s Candies in Westbrook, presented U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) with the “Hero of Main Street” Award on behalf of the National Retail Federation (NRF). NRF presented the award to Senator King in recognition of his support for brick and mortar retailers across the country.

“It was an honor to receive this award from one of the true heroes of Main Street,” Senator King said. “Business owners like Andy – and their hard working employees – are the true drivers of our economy. I’m doing what I can in Washington to help them succeed, but it’s their efforts that keep Main Streets across America vibrant and our economy moving forward.”

In presenting the award, Charles thanked Senator King on behalf of NRF for his work on the Marketplace Fairness Act, which the Senate passed last May, as well as his efforts to improve the Affordable Care Act and make it more workable for employers.
