WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Department of the Interior will distribute $421,711 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to the State of Maine for outdoor recreation and conservation projects.

“We are strong supporters of the Land and Water Conservation Fund which helps states, like Maine, and local communities create new and revitalize outdoor recreation facilities and parks,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Maine’s parks are one of our most precious resources and they help enhance our wonderful quality of life.”

This is the 50^th anniversary of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which was established by Congress in 1964 to help ensure access to outdoor recreation resources for present and future generations.  It is a partnership program that provides matching funds to states and local communities for acquisition, development, and conservation of parks and open space, and is administered by National Park Service in partnership with state governments.
