King Welcomes Former Intern Now Participating in Distinguished International Exchange Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today welcomed back former intern, Willie Ellis of Farmingdale, who is participating in the 2014 U.S. Congress-Korean National Assembly Exchange Program sponsored by the Meridian International Center. As part of the program, which is aimed at expanding perspectives of American and Korean young people on the history of U.S.-Korean relations, Willie introduced fellow participant and South Korean student, Haein Kim, to Senator King.

“I’m thrilled to see Willie continue his outstanding work. He was a top-notch intern for me and he’ll be a great ambassador for the United States in this exchange program,” Senator King said.

This joint exchange program involves briefings, peer activities, internships, and cultural activities in both the U.S. and South Korea. Participants will spend July 25-August 2 in Washington, and August 3-16 in various South Korean Cities.

Haein, a Sociology student at Kyung-buk University, just finished two years of mandatory military service. Willie, a graduate of St. Dominic Academy in Auburn and Princeton University, is one of only ten American participants selected for the program. He served as an intern in Senator King’s Washington, D.C. office in the fall of 2013 and then was selected to serve as a White House intern in the spring of 2014.
