WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-Maine) last week welcomed to the nation’s capital students from Cape Elizabeth High School.  Senator King greeted the AP Government students and their teacher, Ted Jordan, in the Lyndon B. Johnson Room of the U.S. Capitol where he spoke about his work in Washington and the current business before the Senate.

“I was delighted to welcome the students and am pleased they had the opportunity to witness firsthand what they’ve been learning about in the classroom,” said Senator King. “I was impressed not only with their command of U.S. history, but also by the caliber of questions they asked. It is clear they have a great interest in American politics and in how business is conducted here in Washington. Further, their visit could not have come at a better time. The budget negotiations and debate on the floor provided them with a chance to see our democratic process in action.”

After meeting with Senator King, the students headed to the Senate gallery where they had an opportunity to observe floor proceedings and hear U.S. Senators present arguments regarding the Senate Budget Resolution.
