WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement today after voting for legislation that would repeal the reduction in the cost-of-living adjustment for military retirees under the age of 62:
“I have long said that the men and women who have served in our military and risked their lives for our country should not have to bear the financial burden of efforts to reduce the national debt and deficit. When I voted for the bipartisan budget agreement to avoid a government shutdown and provide sorely-needed stability to our economy, I spoke out against the reduction in cost of living benefits for veterans and pledged to work with my colleagues to fix it. That is why I am pleased the Senate acted in concert with the House to repeal that reduction and restore this important set of benefits for veterans across Maine and the nation.”
