WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, March 11, 2014, U.S. Senator Angus King video-conferenced with students from Thornton Academy as part of his ongoing “Capitol Class with Angus” series. The students asked questions about the budget, gun control, Maine’s fisheries, the importance of investing in infrastructure, and how the Senator determines which bills to sponsor.
“It was great to connect with students at Thornton Academy,” said Senator King. “They were well prepared with thoughtful and engaging questions and we were able to cover a wide variety of topics that impact the lives of Mainers not only in York County, but throughout the state.”
Devin Beliveau, a teacher at Thornton Academy who helped coordinate the event stated, “I am thrilled that we have such a tech-savvy Senator, who is so passionate about engaging with Maine students, that he finds the time to join our classroom through digital technology and answer students’ questions face-to-face. It certainly gives new meaning to ‘direct democracy!’”

Over the course of his term in Congress, Senator King hopes to connect with as many Maine high schools as possible in order to share his experiences representing Maine in the U.S. Senate and to answer their questions about today’s most pressing issues.
