WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King yesterday video-conferenced with students from Oxford Hills Middle School and Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School as part of his ongoing “Capitol Class with Angus” series. The students asked questions about local agriculture, how the Senator’s prior work experiences have prepared him for his current position, special education funding, and what it is like to be a political Independent.
“It was a pleasure to connect with the students at Oxford Hills,” Senator King said. “Their questions were thoughtful and engaging, and demonstrated a deep interest not only government, but the world around them.”
"We are so pleased that Senator King was able to join us! Our students were really engaged in the Skype session. We, as a staff, really appreciated that Senator King took the extra time to answer all of the student questions. It was a fantastic learning experience for our students who our currently creating their own town governments while studying civics,” said Joe Cummings, 8th grade social studies teacher who helped set up the event.
Over the course of his term in Congress, Senator King hopes to connect with as many Maine high schools as possible in order to share his experiences representing Maine in the U.S. Senate and answer their questions about today’s most pressing issues. In addition to yesterday’s video-conference, Senator King has connected with several schools, including Dirigo High School, Caribou High School, Bucksport High School, Lawrence High School, Brewer High School, Portland High School, Poland High School, Hall-Dale Middle School and High School, and Mt. Ararat High School.
