WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-ME), today held a video conference with students from Brewer High School as part of his ongoing “Capitol Class with Angus” series. During his time in Washington, Senator King hopes to join with as many Maine high schools as possible in order to answer their questions about issues facing the country and to share his experiences as Maine’s junior U.S. Senator.
“It was great to connect with the students and teachers of Brewer High School today,” said Senator King following the video conference. “They were very well prepared with substantive questions on a wide variety of topics including the environment, education, and healthcare. These classes represent an invaluable opportunity for learning and demonstrate how technology can help me better connect with and serve the people of Maine while in Washington.”
David Wall, Principal of Brewer High School, stated “I really appreciate Senator King taking time out of his busy schedule to Skype with the students of Brewer High School. This event allowed our students to ask specific questions related to the environment, education, and healthcare. Senator King graciously and patiently answered each question and provided interesting insight into each of these topics. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the event and gained a greater appreciation of the political aspects of issues that they will face in the coming years.”
Brewer High School serves just over 750 students from the City of Brewer and the surrounding area. “Capitol Class with Angus” is part of Senator King’s larger effort to improve constituent outreach through the use of 21st century technologies. He also frequently uses video conferencing to meet with constituents and organizations based in Maine and records weekly videos that highlight various events in Washington.
Senator King has video conferenced with four other high schools since assuming office in January, including Lawrence, Bucksport, Caribou, and Portland High Schools.
