FORT KENT, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) visited several businesses and met with constituents as part of a Main Street Walking Tour in Fort Kent.
“Fort Kent is an incredible community and at its heart is historic Main Street, lined with businesses that help form the backbone of the town,” Senator King said. “I enjoyed today’s walking tour and really appreciated the opportunity to talk with small business owners and their customers. Without a doubt, Maine businesses like the ones I visited today continue to be one of the bright spots in our economic future.”
While walking through Main Street, Senator King visited Swamp Buck Restaurant, Rock’s Family Diner, and Circle K. He also visited the Fort Kent Port of Entry where he spoke with Customs and Border Protection agents and surveyed the new international bridge that connects Maine to Clair, New Brunswick and which officially opened in late July.
“The new bridge is an impressive structure and is symbolic of the strong relationship between Maine and Canada. Not only will it help to support international commerce, but it will also make it both easier and safer for people to travel,” Senator King added.
Later this afternoon, Senator King will march in the 2014 World Acadian Congress Tintamarre Parade in Madawaska and deliver remarks in honor of National Acadian Day 2014.
