King to Tour Maine Business that Produces Collectable Eggs for Annual White House Tradition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow, U.S. Senator Angus King will tour Wells Wood Turning & Finishing, Inc. in Buckfield, which manufactured approximately 85,000 collectable, multicolored Easter eggs for this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll.

The company employs about thirty people and manufacturers a wide variety of high-quality wood products including various handles, drawer knobs, and table legs, among many other custom products. As part of its special product line, the company has made the official White House Easter egg for the past six years.

The 2014 souvenir eggs come in four colors – pink, orange, blue, green – and include the stamped signatures of the President and First Lady. A commemorative purple “Bo and Sunny” egg is included only in the 2014 5-pack Collector’s Egg Set.

The White House will host the 136th White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 21st, 2014. According to the White House, the eggs first became part of the annual tradition in 1981, when President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan hosted a hunt for wooden eggs that bore the signatures of actors, actresses, famous politicians, and athletes.
