King to Bring Washington County Lawmaker as Guest to State of the Union

State Senator Joyce Maker (R-Calais) will attend President’s Address to Congress as the Senator’s guest

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced that Maine State Senator Joyce Maker will attend the State of the Union tomorrow as his guest. Senator Maker, a Republican from Calais, was elected in 2016 to represent District 6 in the Maine State Senate, where she chairs the Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resources and sits on the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, she served three terms in the Maine House of Representatives.

“Joyce Maker is a truly fine public servant, and an excellent representative of Maine,” said Senator King. “From her work as a college administrator and her continued community engagement to her service in the Maine State House, Joyce has displayed dedication to improving our state for all who are lucky enough to call it home. I’m grateful for her efforts, and look forward to having her join me for the State of the Union.”

In addition to her time at the State House, Senator Maker has a long history of public service in Maine. A retired college administrator at Washington County Community College, she currently serves as a Calais Regional Hospital Trustee and previously was a member of both the Calais City Council and the Calais School Board. She has also served as President of the St. Croix Area Calais Rotary Club and as a board member and Chair of the Finance Authority of Maine.
