King Sworn in for Second Term

As King is sworn in amidst government shutdown, he reasserts his commitment to spend second term building consensus, solving problems, and lifting up the work of Maine people

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement after being sworn in for his second term in the U.S. Senate:

“Six years ago, the people of Maine placed their faith in me to go to the Senate and try to make their lives better; today, I’m humbled by the trust they’ve given me to continue the work we started together. Washington’s actions need to reflect Maine’s priorities – but as the ongoing shutdown shows, far too often our leaders miss the mark. Maine people want their elected officials to come together and find solutions on the issues we all face, from ensuring access to healthcare to stemming the opioid epidemic to creating new economic opportunities. Over these next six years I’ll do exactly that by working every single day to expand on the good work that Maine people are doing for our state, and to build consensus so we can find real solutions to national challenges.”

In his second term, Senator King will continue to use his serious, thoughtful, and bipartisan approach to legislating to build consensus on important issues facing Maine, including access to healthcare, caring for our veterans, creating economic opportunities for rural Maine, and ending the opioid epidemic that has affected communities across the state. He will also continue his work to strengthen America’s national security as a member of the Armed Services Committee and Intelligence Committee.
