King Statement On the 23rd Anniversary of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME) today released the following statement on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks:

“Today, we remember those who perished on September 11th, 2001, and all Americans who have since been killed from those wishing to inflict terror across the globe. It is also an occasion to recall the incredible unity that Americans demonstrated in the aftermath of that horror — so I urge everyone to focus on what unites us, not divides us. It is clear our nation is stronger when we stand together.

“And as we look toward the future, we must strive to uphold the American values for which so many made the ultimate sacrifice. We, as a nation, are forever indebted, and they deserve nothing less than our full support. These men and women — from everyday New Yorkers and Pentagon workers, to the passengers on Flight 93 and all those who put on a service uniform — are the embodiment of American patriotism and represent the very best of our nation.

“Time and again, Americans have proven that no enemy, foreign or domestic, is able to destroy America’s defining principles of democracy and liberty. May we remember those who passed and honor those who continue to put country first.”
