King Statement on Reported Chemical Weapon Attack in Syria

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today on the reported chemical attack in Syria:

“These atrocities were not only aimed at the innocent men, women, and children whose lives were senselessly taken today, they were leveled against all of humanity,” Senator King said. “These heinous acts of violence, these heart-wrenching images, should remind all of us – from those watching the news to policymakers in Washington trying to find solutions – that we cannot let these continued war crimes, including the use of chemical weapons, become normalized. While the policies of the Unites States and the international community over the six years of the Syrian civil war have clearly fallen short and should be reassessed, we must remember that the primary culprit in this catastrophic war has been the Assad regime with the support of its Russian and Iranian allies.”
