WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement today in response to the release of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s (BPC) new report, Governing in a Polarized America: A Bipartisan Blueprint to Strengthen our Democracy, which provides several recommendations to improve the political process.
“I welcome today’s report from the Bipartisan Policy Center and applaud leaders like Senator Snowe who have committed themselves to offering meaningful recommendations on how Congress can better serve the American people, regardless of political party. With the release of this report, one thing above all is clear: the public’s trust in Congress continues to stagnate at an appalling all-time low and the confidence of the American people in us as elected officials is stretched paper thin,” Senator King said. “The American people deserve a government that can set aside the politicking and the partisanship to tackle the big issues that continue to loom large over the future of this country. The BPC’s report is an important contribution to the discussion of how we can achieve real results in an age of polarization, and I look forward to reviewing their recommendations.”
Former U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), a member of the BPC’s Commission on Political Reform, contributed to the report.
