King Statement on 17th Anniversary of September 11

LEWISTON, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement in honor of the 17th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:

“On this day seventeen years ago, Americans watched together in horror as terrorist attacks against our country claimed almost 3,000 innocent lives. In the days and weeks following the terror, our nation came together to grieve and honor those we had lost, and we were united by our sense of what it means to be an American and our commitment to make certain hope, love, and compassion not only triumphed but also endured. Today, as we take a moment of silence to remember our fallen citizens and the brave men and women who rushed to their side, we must remind ourselves that any differences we may have pale in comparison to our faith in one another as Americans, and in their honor, we must rededicate ourselves to upholding the American values they represented.”

This morning, Senator King attended and gave remarks at ceremonies recognizing the 17th anniversary of the attacks at the Auburn Fire Station and Lewiston Fire Station.
