BRUNSWICK, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement today in recognition of the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:
“Today, fifteen years after terror struck at the heart of America, we once again join together to remember those we lost – our friends, our family, our fellow citizens – and to pay tribute to their memories by recommitting ourselves to the very values that were attacked that fateful day,” said Senator King. “For it was in those darkest of moments that, out of the terror, out of the fear, out of the despair, emerged love, compassion, and hope – when people of all faiths, all colors, and all backgrounds stood in solidarity because, for all our differences and all of our divisions, we knew that nothing united us more than our faith in one another as Americans. Today, as we reflect on September 11th, let us take a moment to remember that, and then let us hold one another a little closer, love one another a little deeper, and continue to strive to uphold and live those values, for that is who we are as Americans.”
