PORTLAND, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) spoke to student leaders from across the northeast as part of Unum’s “Leading the Future Day” at the company’s headquarters in Portland. In his remarks, King, who formerly taught a course on leadership at Bowdoin College, discussed his perspective on the topic as well as the leadership abilities of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. King also later took questions from the students.
“It was a pleasure joining the group at Unum today to examine the importance of strong leadership through the life and deeds of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain,” said Senator King. “An argument can be made that this college professor from Maine saved the United States through his actions on Little Round Top. I hope that the students in the audience today realize how a single person’s courage, creativity, and great leadership can have enormous impact.”
Approximately one hundred people – primarily college students – attended the event, which was held in Unum’s Clipper Auditorium.
