BRUNSWICK, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today released his public schedule for the remainder of the week, which takes him through six towns across five counties and includes visits to an adult education center and afterschool youth center as well as several tours of different small businesses and local manufacturers. King is a strong supporter of U.S. domestic manufacturing and, in a recent speech on the Senate floor, called for an increase in investment in the sector.

Tuesday, April 15th:
9:15-9:45 a.m.: Tour of Lewiston Adult Education (LAE)

Senator King will underscore the importance of programs offered by LAE to adult refugees that helps them learn English and better position them for future employment.
9:50-10:20 a.m.: Tour of Tree Street Youth Center

Senator King will applaud the founders of Tree Street Youth, who are also graduates of Bates College, for their commitment to the Lewiston-Auburn communities and will emphasize the importance of afterschool programs across several areas of childhood development.

Senator King will congratulate Jarden Plastic Solutions on receiving the “Most Innovative Manufacturing Facility Award”, which was presented to them for implementing lean manufacturing tools that will help reduce waste, maximize space, and reduce raw materials and costs, and discuss ways to reinvigorate manufacturing in America.

Senator King will receive an update from WMCA officials about their work as a local “navigator” tasked with helping enroll Mainers in the Affordable Care Act and learn more about their programs and services.
Wednesday, April 16th:

Senator King will tour what is the only U.S. manufacturer of ice cream and corn dog sticks as well as other wooden flatware and dowels for use in the food industry and hear about the current challenges the company faces.
Thursday, April 17th:

Senator King will tour the successful, growing biotech company and deliver brief remarks to employees before the beginning of a regularly scheduled company meeting.
2:00-3:00 p.m.: Tour of Tex Tech Industries

Senator King will meet with employees on the workshop floor and see the company’s R&D and product development laboratories. He will also have the opportunity to witness the capabilities of the vest armor material produced by the company.
3:30-4:30 p.m.: Tour of Jones & Vining

Senator King will tour the facility, meet with the management team, and speak with the workers to hear ideas about ways Congress may be able to better support U.S. domestic manufacturing.
