King, Pingree, Golden Applaud Senate Confirmation of Aroostook County Native Darcie McElwee as Maine’s U.S. Attorney

McElwee was recommended after King, Pingree, Golden convened a committee of prominent Maine legal professionals to evaluate applicants

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King and Representatives Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden applauded the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Darcie McElwee as the United States Attorney for the District of Maine. Senator King and Representatives Pingree and Golden provided counsel to President Joe Biden on the nomination, recommending McElwee after convening a committee of distinguished Maine legal professionals who met with a number of qualified candidates.

“Darcie McElwee’s confirmation as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine will make our state a safer, more just place,” said Senator King and Representatives Pingree and Golden. “Darcie is a Maine native, experienced member of the U.S. Attorney’s office, and a talented legal mind. She has the roots, background, and skills needed to lead the U.S. Attorney’s office with distinction in the years ahead. We are grateful that Darcie will continue her lifelong commitment to serving Maine in this vital role.”

Darcie McElwee is an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine, where she has served since 2002. She has served as the Project Safe Neighborhoods Coordinator for the office since 2005. Between 2005 and 2008, McElwee was an adjunct professor of advanced trial advocacy at the University of Maine School of Law. She began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for the Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties in Maine from 1998 to 2002. A native of Caribou, McElwee received her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 1998 and her A.B. from Bowdoin College in 1995.
