King on Jobs Report: Senate Must Reach Consensus on Issues Important to the American People

GEORGETOWN, ME – In response to the June jobs report released today by the U.S. Department of Labor, which revealed that the economy added 288,000 new jobs, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement:

“Today’s report is good news for the economy but there are still too many Americans who are playing catchup. And it’s our job, as elected officials, to do what we can to help those who haven’t found their way through these tough economic times,” said Senator King. “Finding solutions aimed at working Americans is something that both sides of the aisle have made a priority. I’m hopeful that when we come back into session next week, members of the Senate can find some way to reach consensus on issues that matter to the American people and to make our priorities a reality.”

The Department of Labor announced today that the economy added 288,000 jobs in June and that the unemployment rate declined to 6.1 percent. The report also revised May employment gains upward to 224,000 and April employment gains up to 304,000.
