King Named to Leadership Role on Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced today that he has been named the Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on Water and Power. The Subcommittee on Water and Power is responsible for overseeing programs related to irrigation, reclamation projects, including related flood control purposes; power marketing administrations; energy development impacts on water resources; groundwater resources and management; hydroelectric power; low head hydro; and energy related aspects of deepwater ports. As Ranking Member, Senator King will lead the Subcommittee along with the Chairman, Senator Jeff Flake (R-Az.).

“Tailoring smart regulations and providing access to affordable, clean energy that allows Maine people, small business owners, and farmers to succeed will be my top priorities as I take the helm of this important subcommittee along with my friend and colleague, Senator Jeff Flake,” Senator King said. “I look forward to working in a collaborative, bipartisan fashion to achieve these goals.”

Senator King today was also named to the Subcommittee on National Parks and the Subcommittee on Energy.

Earlier this month, Senator King was named the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Airland, placing him in a position to oversee matters directly relating to the equipment and related research for the Air Force and Army, as well as the tactical aviation programs of the Navy and Marine Corps.
