King Meets with Mainer Who Ran to Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-Maine) met with Gary Allen of Great Cranberry Island, who arrived in the nation’s capital on January 21st after having run seven hundred miles through ten states to raise money for charities.  Averaging forty-seven miles per day, the veteran runner braved the winter elements and crushing fatigue to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society, and the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting.

Following their meeting yesterday, Senator King said:

“It was an honor to meet with Gary.  His feat is not only incredible and inspiring, but it speaks to the very best of who we are as Mainers.  His spirit of strength, generosity, and commitment to helping those in need is extraordinary, and I have nothing but the highest respect for him and his efforts to better our communities.”
