King Launches Podcast Featuring Local and National Leaders

“Inside Maine Podcast with Senator Angus King” to air monthly

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced today that he is launching a monthly podcast featuring interviews with leaders from Maine and Washington about some of the most pressing issues of the day. The “Inside Maine Podcast with Senator Angus King” will help keep Maine people informed about those issues, how they affect life in the state, and how they factor into Senator King’s work as one of two independents in the U.S. Senate.

“Republicans, Democrats and Independents may not always see eye to eye on the big issues, but there are some issues that unite us – and by discussing those issues with guests, I try to bring a little bit of Maine to Washington and a little bit of Washington to Maine at the same time. I hope that this podcast will provide another window to help Mainers understand not only what’s happening in the Senate and in Washington, but also how it affects their daily lives back home,” said Senator King.

Senator King’s podcast builds on his existing radio show that airs on Newsradio WGAN in Portland, Maine between 10 and 11 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month. Since 2013, Senator King has hosted one half-hour show almost every month in order to keep Maine people up-to-date on issues before the U.S. Senate. His past radio guests include: Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine), former Senator and Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen (R-Maine), Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Thomas College President Laurie Lachance, Hussey Seating President and CEO Tim Hussey, former FEC Chairman and Stephen Colbert Super PAC lawyer Trevor Potter, the Audubon Society’s “Puffin Man” Steve Kress, and Olympic champion snowboarder Seth Wescott. These past shows are available in the Multimedia section of Senator King’s website.

The inaugural episodes of the podcast feature Maine Law student Christopher Poulos and Senator Jeanne Shaheen discussing the opioid epidemic, and the Island Institute’s Suzanne MacDonald and the Biomass Power Association’s Bob Cleaves discussing the future of rural energy in Maine.

The Inside Maine Podcast with Senator Angus King is available for free in iTunes and on Senator King’s website.
