King Joins Capitol Hill Steering Committee Promoting Telehealth and Health Informatics

Committee supports technology developments revolutionizing the delivery of health care services in rural Maine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today announced that he has joined the Health Information and Management Systems Society’s Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics. As a member of the Committee, Senator King will serve as an honorary co-chair of education sessions and technology demonstrations that provide an opportunity for members of Congress and their staff to better familiarize themselves with emerging technologies that are helping to change the way that healthcare services are delivered.

“In rural states like Maine, health IT advancements like telemedicine are already connecting more and more people to high-quality medical care,” Senator King said. “By continuing to strengthen our country’s telehealth systems and broadband infrastructure, we can better connect patients to doctors and help provide Americans with more accessible, personalized, affordable health care.  I look forward to working with the other members of the Committee to build on the gains we’ve made in telehealth and health information technology that can help make our rural communities healthier and happier.”

Senator King joins a bipartisan group of honorary co-chairs including Richard Blumenthal (D-CT); John Thune (R-SD); Mike Crapo (R-ID); Tom Udall (D-NM); Amy Klobuchar (D-MN); Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI); Al Franken (D-MN) and Representatives Tim Murphy (R-PA); Michael Burgess (R-TX); Doris Matsui (D-CA); Rep Erik Paulsen (R-MN); Tom Price (R-GA); Diane Black (R-TN); and Michael Honda (D-CA).
