WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the January 2021 edition of his “Inside Maine” podcast, featuring U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) to discuss the importance of bipartisan legislating in the 117th Congress and how Congress can work together to provide vital coronavirus relief to the American people. Both Senators King and Murkowski are currently involved with a growing bipartisan group of colleagues to work with the Biden Administration to craft additional COVID-19 relief legislation.
“Americans are facing a multitude of crises at the moment – two being the coronavirus pandemic and related economic fallout. Neither show signs of slowing, and it’s clear that our people need certainty and relief in this unprecedented time,” said Senator King. “There is no need for this to be a partisan issue. We must provide necessary relief to small businesses struggling to stay afloat, unemployed individuals who lost their jobs, and everyday Americans who face added costs related to challenges that the pandemic poses – these challenges are shared by red and blue states alike. We’re here to help, not to argue in Washington while folks in our home states struggle to make ends meet. December’s bipartisan emergency COVID-19 relief bill was a strong step in the right direction – a charge led in part by today’s guest, Senator Murkowski, but we cannot stop there. I’m optimistic that more colleagues on both sides of the aisle will join Senator Murkowski and I as we work with the Biden Administration to provide the American people with the critical resources that they need to get through this difficult time.”
Senators King and Murkowski were key members of the bipartisan “908 Coalition” that brought colleagues from both sides of the aisle together in November to work on an emergency relief bill for the American people. Their proposal was used as a framework for the emergency relief that was enacted end of December.
The “Inside Maine Podcast with Senator Angus King” is a 30-minute program that aims to help keep Maine people informed about issues of the day, how they affect life in the state, and how they factor into Senator King’s work as one of two independents in the U.S. Senate. Senator King’s podcast builds on his existing radio show that airs on Newsradio WGAN in Portland, Maine between 10 and 11 a.m. on almost every last Saturday of the month.
