AUGUSTA, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today delivered the keynote address at Kennebec Valley Community College’s 45th Commencement Exercises held at the Augusta Civic Center. In his remarks, King congratulated the 427 graduating students for their hard work and offered advice as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
“The Kennebec Valley Community College graduating class of 2015 is proof positive that hard work really does pay off,” said Senator King. “These impressive students have dedicated themselves to advancing their education while always rising to meet the next challenge. In today’s changing world, there is nothing more valuable than a good education – and thanks to their tireless efforts and the unwavering support of their teachers, friends, and community, these KVCC graduates have the ability to make bright futures for themselves and for the state of Maine.”
Located in Fairfield, Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is a public, non-profit, post-secondary institution and is one of seven community colleges that operate under the authority of the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees. In January 2015, KVCC began classes at its new 600-acre Harold Alfond Campus in nearby Hinckley. The new campus features new technology and opportunities for students, including the modern Sustainable Agriculture Building which houses the state’s first two-year program in sustainable agriculture.
Other speakers at the event included Shawn H. Moody, Trustee, Maine Community College System Board of Trustees; Donald Borman, Treasurer, Kennebec Valley Community College Foundation Board of Trustees; Keith Sullivan, Medical Assisting Program, KVCC Student of the Year; and Dr. Richard R. Hopper, President, Kennebec Valley Community College.
Senator King was invited to deliver the keynote address by KVCC President Dr. Richard Hopper.
