King, Collins Testify in Support of Maine’s Greg Nadeau to be Next Federal Highway Administrator

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Angus King and Susan Collins testified in support of Greg Nadeau’s nomination to be the next Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration during a hearing in the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Nadeau, a Lewiston native, served as Senior Policy Advisor to then-Governor King from 1995 to 2002 and has served as the Federal Highway Administration’s Deputy Administrator since 2009.

“When I was elected Governor of Maine in 1994, about a week after my election, literally one of the first phone calls I made was to Greg Nadeau – and I asked him to join my office as one of my Senior Policy Advisors because of his experience, his judgment, his integrity, and his intelligence,” said Senator King. “Since 2009, he’s been here in Washington at the Department of Transportation in the Federal Highway Administration and has really demonstrated a dedication to infrastructure and highway issues – a deep knowledge of how this works, not only at the federal level, but at the state level […] The highest compliment you can pay to someone in Maine […] is to say he’s ‘finest kind,’ and Greg certainly fills that criteria. It’s an honor for me to join Senator Collins today to enthusiastically commend his capabilities and his experience to this committee.”

“I have known Greg for many years and have worked closely with him on many important transportation issues in our home State of Maine,” said Senator Collins. “Greg has a long record of public service and experience in transportation policy, including serving ably as the Deputy Administration of the Federal Highway Administration since 2009. The President’s nomination of Greg is a well-earned recognition of his expertise in highway policy and his effectiveness as a manager of people and programs […] As Greg’s nomination process moves forward, I want to tell the Committee that I cannot think of a better person to lead the Federal Highway Administration in its ongoing stewardship of the construction, maintenance, and preservation of our nation’s highways, bridges, and tunnels.”

Following his time in the King Administration, Nadeau served as the Maine Department of Transportation's (MaineDOT) Deputy Commissioner for Policy, Planning and Communications until 2009. He previously represented Lewiston in the Maine House of Representatives from 1978-1990. He was nominated by President Obama for the position of Administrator on May 11, 2015.
