LEWISTON, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) met with small business and community leaders in Lewiston to discuss their work to create jobs, spur innovation and bolster the local economy. During his day, Senator King toured Lisbon Street to visit with local business owners, and also met with leaders of Elmet Technology, the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and Central Distributors.
“From international businesses to local mom-and-pop shops, Maine’s entrepreneurial spirit is thriving in Lewiston,” said Senator King. “Our state’s business community is filled with innovative and forward-thinking leaders who create important economic opportunities. Their dedication to improving their communities and consistent pursuit of improvement is a major boost for not only Lewiston, but for the state as a whole.”
Senator King began his day by meeting with management at Elmet Technologies, an international technology firm that makes components for a variety of products including medical imaging, electronic devices, and heat shielding. The company has both its corporate headquarters and primary manufacturing site located in Lewiston. Senator King then ate lunch at the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, where he met with entrepreneurs from Lewiston and Auburn and discussed the opportunities they are pursuing and the challenges they face. Following lunch, Senator King toured Lisbon Street, where he met with Maine people and local small business owners, as well as employees at Rinck Advertising. Senator King ended his day at Central Distributors, a fourth-generation family-owned business centered in Lewiston.
