GEORGETOWN, ME – In recognition of the second annual Startup Day Across America, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Senate Economic Mobility Caucus, today issued the following statement showing his support for the innovative startups in Maine and around the country:
“Startup Day Across America is an important reminder of the role that innovation plays in our economy,” said Senator King. “Startups across Maine – particularly in the food and payment sectors – continue to spur development and propel the Maine economy forward. We need to encourage our forward-thinking entrepreneurs to continue to grow and do bold things, and that can only happen through policies that mirror their innovative spirit.”
Representatives Darrell Issa (R-Ca.) and Jared Polis (D-Col.) launched Startup Day Across America in an effort to connect legislators with innovative entrepreneurs and businesses in their respective communities. As a result, legislators from both sides of the aisle are coming together today to highlight the vast potential of American startups, and the significant role they play in job creation and community development throughout the country.
In an effort to promote startup growth, Senator King has joined a bipartisan group of Senators as a cosponsor of the Helping Angels Lead Our Startups (HALOS) Act. The HALOS Act would lift burdensome regulations that currently stifle startup investment, giving small businesses the freedom and access to capital they need to maximize their positive impact on communities across America.
Senator King was also a featured speaker at the inaugural Maine Startup and Create Week held in Portland earlier this June.
