King Applauds Feinstein Decision to Push for Fewer Redactions in CIA Report

GEORGETOWN, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, applauded the statement issued today by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) regarding the decision to hold the release of the committee study of the CIA’s detention and interrogation program until these redactions are addressed to the committee’s satisfaction:

“The American public should be given the opportunity to read the report and reach their own conclusions about the conduct of the program,” said Senator King. “Getting to that point requires that we ensure the Administration’s proposed redactions do not obscure the facts. I am confident we can protect intelligence sources and methods and still declassify a significant portion of the study. I fully support Chairman Feinstein’s efforts to make sure we strike the appropriate balance.”

On April 3, 2014, Senator King voted in favor of declassifying the Findings & Conclusions and Executive Summary of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence report regarding the Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) Detention and Interrogation Program.
