BOOTHBAY HARBOR, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement today in response to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) vote today to begin modernizing the E-Rate program:

“I applaud the FCC for moving another step closer to bringing high-speed broadband to every school and library across Maine and America,” Senator King said. “The Internet has changed dramatically since the creation of the E-Rate program in 1996, and as technological literacy grows increasingly important in this global economy, it’s critical that we modernize and strengthen the program to keep pace with those changes. Our nation’s students and our economy will reap the benefits of these updates far into the future.”

Senator King met recently with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, as well as FCC Commissioners Ajit Pai and Jessica Rosenworcel, to express his support for the move to modernize the E-Rate program.
