WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME) today applauded an announcement by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) that it will award the city of Bangor $579,000 to renovate and expand commercial aviation maintenance facilities at Bangor International Airport (BGR). The funds will be used to renovate a 17,000-square-foot hangar, upgrade an aircraft painting facility, make boiler room improvements, and install new air handling and water pre-treatment equipment. It is expected that the grant will create 70 high-wage aircraft maintenance and repair jobs, generate an estimated $250,000 in private investment, and increase the competitiveness of local businesses.
“I’m tremendously pleased the U.S. Economic Development Administration has decided to invest in the City of Bangor,” said Senator King. “This vital funding will assist in the improvement of infrastructure at BGR, create more than 50 jobs, and directly contribute to the growth of the local economy. Smart and targeted investments like these are exactly how the federal government can help to jumpstart local economies across the country.”
The U.S. Economic Development Administration, which operates under the U.S. Department of Commerce, works to increase our national economic competitiveness and preparedness by making investments that create local jobs for American workers, promote innovation, and accelerate long-term sustainable economic growth.
