WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-ME) today applauds an announcement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that it is making available an estimated $1,340,317 to 19 Maine community health centers to help uninsured Mainers enroll in affordable health insurance coverage.

The funding, which is being issued by the Health Resources and Services Administration under the Affordable Care Act, will help the health centers to hire new staff, train existing staff, and conduct community outreach events and other educational activities. Health centers will help consumers understand their coverage options, determine their eligibility, and enroll in new affordable health insurance options. Community health center staff will also provide information to consumers about health insurance, the new Health Insurance Marketplace, qualified health plans, and Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

“This is welcome news for Maine’s community health centers which just last year provided assistance and care to more than 180,000 people across the state,” Senator King said. “This investment will enable them to better help eligible Mainers understand their options and enroll in affordable coverage.”
