WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced the hiring of three new staff members. Alex Porter, who had previously served as a Legislative Aide for Senator King, rejoins his staff as Tax Counsel and Legislative Assistant; Megan DesCamps, an experienced healthcare policy advisor, joins Senator King’s staff as Senior Policy Advisor focusing on healthcare policy; and Jeffrey Burke, a recent graduate of the University of Maine, joins Senator King’s office as Staff Assistant and Tour Coordinator. Each of these new hires will be based out of King’s Washington, D.C. office.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Alex, Megan and Jeffrey to the office,” said Senator King. “Each of these excellent public servants will bring passion, dedication, and expertise to our shared work on behalf of the state of Maine. I look forward to seeing their contributions to our office and to the people of Maine.”
Alex Porter, a Bowdoin College and Boston College Law School graduate, comes to Senator King’s office from Portland, Maine, where he practiced law at Verrill Dana LLP. At Verrill Dana, Alex provided tax advice to individuals and charitable organizations. Following his first year of law school, Alex worked as a judicial intern for United States District Court Judge Jon D. Levy of the District of Maine. Alex is admitted to practice law in Maine, the United States District Court for the District of Maine, and Connecticut. Prior to attending law school, Alex served as a Legislative Aide to Senator King.
Megan DesCamps is a University of Kansas graduate who holds a Master’s of Public Health from George Washington University, and has more than a decade of legislative experience on Capitol Hill. She began her career in the Senate working for former Senator Tim Johnson (D-S.D.), where she focused on healthcare issues, and in 2013 joined the office of Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) as a health policy advisor.
Jeffrey Burke, a native of Bangor, is a December 2018 graduate of the University of Maine, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree and studied Political Science. During the spring semester of his junior year, Jeffrey was admitted to the University of Maine’s Peter Madigan Congressional Internship program and served as a Legislative Intern in Senator King’s D.C. office from January 2018 to May 2018. Jeffrey graduated from Bangor High School in 2015 and spent summers throughout high school and college working for his family’s small business in downtown Bar Harbor.
