BRUNSWICK, ME – The Office of U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today announced the hiring of three Maine people to support his efforts serving people across Maine. Sarah Stanley is joining Senator King’s team as the York Country Regional Representative based in Biddeford; Marielle Thete, who previously served as Senator King’s scheduler, is returning to serve as a Legislative Assistant overseeing immigration, education and judiciary policy; and Maria Kuhn, who also previously served in Senator King’s office as a 2020 intern, is returning as a Legislative Correspondent covering immigration, Indian Affairs and telecommunications. Both Marielle and Maria will be based in the Senator’s Washington, D.C. office.
“I’m so proud of the work my team has done on behalf of the people of Maine over the years and am excited to build on that success by welcoming Sarah, Marielle and Maria to the team,” said Senator King. “Their passion for public service is crystal clear and I know they have the skills and dedication to help make Maine a better place to live, work and raise a family. I cannot wait to see all the great contributions they will make in the many months and years to come.”
Sarah Stanley is an 11th generation Maine person who most recently worked as the New England Program Manager for the National Forest Foundation (NFF). At the NFF, she led on the ground projects in White Mountain and Green Mountain National Forests. Prior to her time with NFF, she served as the Executive Director of the Kennebunk Land Trust. Sarah is a Registered Maine Guide, is CPR and Wilderness First Aid Certified and holds a private pilot’s license with a seaplane rating. She earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies & Politics from Bates College and a M.S in Environmental Studies & Sustainability from Unity College.
Marielle Thete, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, proudly grew up in Portland. Prior to returning to Senator King’s office, she served as a Director of Government Relations at the ONE Campaign where she focused on U.S.-Africa policy. She also previously served as the Program Manager for CARE’s Learning Tours, which hosts delegations in countries across the globe to experience firsthand the impacts of U.S. investments and foreign aid. Marielle first worked on Senator King’s team as a state scheduler. She earned her B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Wheaton College (MA).
Maria Kuhn grew up in Falmouth. She is the founder of a Gen Z nonprofit, Drive US Forward, that works for gender equity in transportation safety. She previously worked for SKDKnickerbocker, a public affairs consulting firm, and interned for Senator King in the spring of 2020. Maria earned her B.A. in Political Science from Columbia University.
