GEORGETOWN, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today announced that the Monroe Fire Department will receive a federal grant in the amount of $61,275 and the Old Town Fire Rescue Department will receive a federal grant in the amount of $72,675 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).
“It’s critical that our first responders have the resources they need to perform their jobs. These grants will help support the Monroe and Old Town fire departments as they work to keep our communities safe,” Senator King said.
Specifically, the funding will come through the AFG’s Operations & Safety program. Monroe will use the funding to help purchase firefighter self-contained breathing apparatus and rapid intervention packs, as well as provide firefighter I and II training, and Old Town will use the funding to help purchase cardiac monitors and automatic external defibrillators.
